We corrected the chapter 6 tests in class, and the students also responded to their key questions for chapter 6.    They were also allowed to work on their study guides while they were waiting their turn.    Turn in all your makeup work by Monday & Tuesday.

Students took the chapter 6 test and turned in their workbooks.    Tomorrow we will be asking them to respond to their previously assigned key questions & work on their study guides.

Students watched Ep. 13 of Destinos and we also finished reading the culture articles in chapter 6, pp. 192-193.    They also worked on a study guide for chapter 6.   Tomorrow there will be a quiz over grammar.

Tuesday, Jan. 18:
 
Students who had not completed their performance of the poem, finished today.  We also corrected the workbooks and wrote the essays for chapter  6 in class.     They will be presented to the class next week.     Next week students will give their presentations for the family trees, take the chapter 6 tests, and turn in their workbooks.   They will also be answering the key questions for chapter 6.

Students took the quiz over Palabras 2, and we corrected it in class.  We also presented the poem they had memorized and corrected the homework from the workbook.  Students received their Midterm Study Guide which will be worth 100 points at the end of the semester.

Students watched Episode 12 of Destinos after they did the bellwork,  page 178, #12 (write out the answers in complete sentences).   Then we worked on a grammar worksheet in class.

Students took the chapter 5 test, and we had a notebook & workbook check.  So they also turned those in for points.     They should be practicing their responses to the key questions, their poems, and their dialogues.    They also received a chapter 6 vocabulary list.

Monday, Jan 3:
 
Students watched episode 11 of Destinos, and we practiced the "Izquierda, Derecha" poem in class.  The last half of the class, the students worked together in their groups to finish their dialogues for chapter 5.   These must be typed and memorized for presentations next Monday, 1/10/11.

Friday, Dec. 17:
 
Students were allowed to take the chapter 5 test during lunch if they did not want to wait till after Christmas break.   We corrected the worksheets from the previous day (including the repaso), and we reviewed for the exam in January.

Students corrected the Chapter 4 test, and turned in their workbooks for a workbook check.   We also completed the Key Questions for chapter 4 in class.     Students also received the chapter 5 vocabulary list.
 
 
 
Tuesday, Nov. 30:
 
Students took the Chapter 4 test in the alternate classroom, since they were filming in B-104.    We'll just postpone the workbook check till tomorrow.     We will also be doing the Key Questions tomorrow.
 
 
 
Monday, Nov. 29:
 
The film crew was filming in B-104 today, so we had class in the alternate classrooms.    Students worked on review assignments in class, the Assessment (pages 130-131), the converstion (p. 120), and the Repaso (worksheet previously given to the students).   They should be ready to turn in their workbooks for a workbook check, and take the chapter 4 test tomorrow.

Students watched the Buen Viaje videos for chapters 1 & 2 and we did the worksheets together in class.   (If you missed today, you can come in an watch the videos & get the packet that goes with it.)   Tarea:  shopping at elcorteingles.es & turn in your shopping list after Thanksgiving.    Test on Tuesday when we get back.

Students took the grammar quizzes & we corrected them in class.   They used the class period to finish essays.   Don't forget to study for chapter 4 test when we come back from Thanksgiving.    Tarea:  pages 43-44 in the workbook.

Students watched Destinos, episode 8, and then they worked on the essay for chapter 4 in class (page 128, #3, 8 sentences of 5 or more words, based on chapter2 1-4.)    Tarea:  pages 41 &42 in the workbook.

Students watched Destinos Ep. 4, and we also reviewed for the chapter 2 test tomorrow.   We used flashcards and teams to check our time skills and we played Chapters 1 & 2 Pictionary to test our vocabulary knowledge.    The students also received their rough drafts of their essays, and they have a week to type them and return them (they are due Monday, Oct. 18).   Tomorrow they will turn in their workbooks and have a notebook check too.

Students did the bellwork/calentamiento from  p. 59, #21.   Then we worked on a grammar worksheet in class which was about the verb ser, pronouns in Spanish & the use of the indefinite article.   Finally, we wrote the essays for chapter 3, based on page 69, #3.   The essays should be 6 sentences of at least 4 words each.    Tarea:  Study for the grammar quiz.

Monday, Sept. 13:
 
Students did the bellwork on page 20, #9, writing a sentence for each picture, and they also reviewed the grammar information about the verb "ser."   We also began working in the workbook & listening manual, including Palabras 1 of Chapter 1.   We did the exercises in the listening manual and workbook together in class.      Tarea/homework:  It would have been the 2 pages in the workbooks, but we did those together in class for the first assignment.

Friday, Sept. 10:
 
We reviewed the alphabet & numbers, and we began working on Chapter 1, Palabras 1 and grammar, and we took notes about the grammar on pages 22, 23, & 25.    Students were told to download the vocabulary list for chapter 1, since the printer has been out of service for awhile.    The homework/tarea is to study the preliminary vocabulary, the study guide, and to download the vocabulary list for chapter 1.  
 
 
 
 
Thursday, Sept. 9:
 
 We worked on the Lecciones Preliminares, pp. 1-11, and discussed the schedule for Spanish I,  covering 1 chapter every 2 weeks.  The first quiz will be next Wednesday, Sept. 16.  It will  cover the Preliminary section in the book, and it will be a matching quiz.   There will not be any other matching quizzes during the school year.   All other quizzes and tests will require spelling and writing.

Students will receive the following study materials for use during the first week of school.    We will review the syllabus, study guide, and preliminary vocabulary.   Students should turn in their parent contact information by Monday.   They should also be able to access the webpage.

Friday, Dec. 18:

 

Students worked on their essays for chapter 6 about their families.   They were given the chapter 6 project information, and turned in their essays at the end of class.    Any students wishing to get extra credit for knowing the lyrics to "Cielito Lindo" were allowed to write them out for points or perform the first verse & chorus.   The students should be working on "Izquierda, Derecha" over Christmas break.    There will be quizzes over chapter 6, Palabras 2 & grammar during the first week back to school in January.

Students did the bellwork, page 172, #2, in their notebooks, and then we practiced our "Izquierda, Derecha" poem together in class.   Afterward, we reviewed the grammar worksheets from when the subs were here the week before & we corrected them together.    If students are not done with the worksheets, they can turn them in by 1/4/10.    Any unfinished/untyped dialogues must be turned in by 1/4/10, as well.  Homework/Tarea:  pages 61-62 in the workbook.

Students watched Destinos, Ep. 5, and they also received the corrected chapter 2 tests to review.   Then we corrected the homework from the night before, and looked at the homework for tonight.    Tarea:  pages 21-22 in the workbook.

Students corrected the Chapter 2 Tests in class, and we began chapter 3, looking at Palabras 1 & 2.    The homework (tarea) is the first two pages in chapter 3 of the workbook.

Students took the Chapter 2 Test, and they had a notebook check.   They should turn in any homework they were keeping for Chapter 2.

Friday, Oct. 9:
 
Students took the Quiz over Numbers 0-100, by tens.   We corrected it in class and reviewed the notes from the previous day about ser & estar.   There will be a notebook check on Monday & a test over all over chapter 2.   Students then wrote rough drafts of essays for chapter 2, based on page 69, #3, an email to a friend.   They should include 7 sentences of at least 4 words each & be basically about chapter 1 & 2 vocabulary.    They were due at the end of class.   Students will get them back on Monday and have the week to type and illustrate them.    Homework is to study for the test, and to download the TAREA above, and complete the crossword puzzle.

Students took the grammar quiz, and we corrected it in class.   Afterwards, we talked about the verbs "ser" and "estar" which mean "to be" in  English.     Tomorrow there is a Numbers quiz and we will write our essays for chapter 2.

Students watched Destinos, Episode 4, and they turned in their workbooks for a workbook check, chapters 1-2.   They also had some time in class to work on the Culture Review handout, which they can use to study for the Chapter 2 test.  We  corrected it in class.

Students handed in their essays and reviewed their tests from the previous Friday.   We also worked on the Chapter 2 grammar and the vocabulary from Palabras 2.    Students also worked on a Crossword Puzzle from Chapter 2 Vocabulary.   Bellwork:  Page 53, #15, write out the sentence and fill in the blank.

Students took the Numbers Quiz, over the numbers 0-20, and we corrected it in class.   We also corrected the Chapter 1 tests from last week.   Afterward, we started chapter 2, Palabras 1, and worked in the Listening Manual together.    There will be a quiz over Palabras 1 on Thursday.   Friday there will be a Numbers Quiz, 0-30.    Tarea:   Finish Spanish essays.

Friday, Sept. 25:
 
Students took the Chapter 1 Test, and they received the rough drafts of the essays.   These will be due on Tuesday, Sept. 29.   The essays must be typed (using Spanish characters), include a picture, and be stapled to the rough draft.   The quiz over numbers 0-20 was postponed to Monday, due to the short rally schedule today.

Thursday, Sept. 24:
 
Students will work on Assignment #4 (working in essay form rather than postcard) on page 37 in the textbook.   We will be writing rough drafts and correcting each other's essay in class.   Essays should be at least 5 long sentences per essay.    I will check them tonight and return them tomorrow after the Chapter 1 test.    Then students will have the weekend to type it and illustrate it.    The final copy (including a picture) is due on Tuesday, stapled to the rough draft.

Students took the  matching quiz over the Preliminary Section of the textbook, pp. 1-11.    The quizzes for the remainder of the course will not be matching.  After the quiz, we corrected it in class, then we watched the first episode of Destinos, a video telenovela series for Spanish students.   We will be watching in throughout the year.   If a student misses a video episode, they must come in before or after school, or at lunch to make it up.    Tarea:   Pages 7 & 8  in the workbook.

Students studied grammar from chaper 1, including pages 22 & 25, and we read about El Quijote by Cervantes.    We also corrected the homework from the night before, pages 3-4 in the workbooks.     The in class assignment was a grammar worksheet, pp 2 & 3, which we did together in class.   Bellwork:  Write 2 sentences about yourself using the "soy," (one to tell your name and one to tell where you are from).

Monday, Sept. 14:
 
Students studied Palabras 2 and how to conjugate SER and AR verbs.  They began working in the workbooks, pages 1 & 2 in class, and they had pages 3 & 4 for homework.    Students should have a notebook for bellwork & taking notes.  Today's bellwork was to write the 4 seasons in Spanish & the months in each season.

Thursday, Sept. 10:
 
Students had a shortened schedule due to the Assembly.   We worked on the Lecciones Preliminares, pp. 1-11, and discussed the schedule for Spanish I,  covering 1 chapter every 2 weeks.  The first quiz will be next Wednesday, Sept. 16.  It will  cover the Preliminary section in the book, and it will be a matching quiz.   There will not be any other matching quizzes during the school year.   All other quizzes and tests will require spelling and writing.
